Does every thick product need a heated hopper?
No. Heating is useful only when a defined temperature improves or maintains fillability without harming product quality. Many products can be filled at ambient temperature.
How should the temperature set point be chosen?
Use product data and trials to define the lowest temperature that gives stable filling and the maximum temperature acceptable for product, seals, operators and containers.
Can mixing improve fill accuracy?
It can help when settling or separation changes the product, but excessive mixing can introduce air or alter texture. The mixing regime must be part of the test conditions.
When is a pressurised hopper considered?
It may help feed very thick product, but pressure-vessel requirements, safety, product behaviour and nozzle cut-off must be assessed. It is not a universal solution.
How is end-of-batch performance checked?
Run the hopper down to the lowest intended operating level and confirm mixing, temperature, feed and dose remain acceptable.
What cleaning issues do heated hoppers add?
Heaters, jackets, mixers, shafts and seals can increase cleaning and inspection needs. Safe isolation and access should be demonstrated.
