Nozzle evidence

Control product pressure, valve closure and container movement together.

An anti-drip label does not guarantee clean cut-off. The nozzle must suit the product’s viscosity, elasticity, particles and pressure, and it must work with the actual neck opening and delay between containers.

Shut-off at the tip

A closing tip can stop flow near the outlet and reduce the column of product left to drip. Check whether the mechanism leaves enough passage for particles and whether seals are compatible with the product and cleaning method.

Suck-back

Suck-back can draw a controlled amount of product away from the tip after filling. It may help with tails or strings, but excessive movement can introduce air, pull product from the container or affect the next dose.

Nozzle bore and particles

The bore must fit the container opening while allowing the largest credible particles to pass. Larger bores can improve flow but may increase splash or reduce positioning tolerance.

Diving or following movement

Moving the nozzle into the container can reduce splash or control the deposit position. It adds cycle time and mechanical complexity, so it should solve a demonstrated fill problem.

Nozzle FAQs

Questions about shut-off, suck-back and strings.

Will an anti-drip nozzle stop every drip?

No. Product pressure, viscosity, temperature, particles, valve timing and container movement all affect the result. The complete fill cycle must be tested.

What is the difference between shut-off and suck-back?

Shut-off closes the product path, while suck-back retracts a small quantity away from the tip. They can be used separately or together depending on the product.

Can suck-back reduce fill accuracy?

It can if the setting is excessive or inconsistent. The next fill and the product remaining in the nozzle should be included in the dose test.

How is the nozzle sized for particles?

Compare the largest particle and its shape with the complete minimum passage, not only the visible outlet. Include valves and connectors in the review.

When is a diving nozzle useful for paste?

It may help place product deeper in a container or reduce splash, but it is not required for every paste and can reduce speed. Use it for a defined problem.

What evidence should be sent for a stringing problem?

Send a close-up video at normal product temperature, the container opening, the time between fills and details of the current nozzle or valve.

Nozzle-diagnosis questions

A nozzle can close mechanically and still leave a tail, reopen or push residual product into the pack. Diagnosis should include product pressure, nozzle position, dwell time and the condition after a production stop.

What causes a paste filling nozzle to reopen after it has shut?

Residual pressure, elastic product behaviour, a leaking seal, valve movement or product trapped around the closure can force the nozzle open or release a delayed drop. Observe the nozzle after the machine has stopped, then isolate whether pressure comes from the pump, cylinder, hose or product column.

How can the distance between nozzle and container affect stringing?

A long free strand gives cohesive product more opportunity to stretch and sweep across the rim as the container moves. Reducing the gap, changing the withdrawal timing or using a controlled diving motion can improve presentation, provided the nozzle remains safely aligned and does not touch the pack or filled product unexpectedly.

Why should cut-off be checked after the machine has been standing?

Product can cool, settle, skin, drain or build pressure during a pause. The first restart fill may therefore behave differently from steady running. Include a realistic stop and restart in the trial and inspect both the nozzle and the first packs before declaring the cut-off suitable.

When can product pressure defeat an otherwise suitable shut-off nozzle?

If feed or discharge pressure remains above what the closure can contain, product may seep, distort seals or release when the nozzle opens. Control pressure at its source and coordinate pump, cylinder and valve timing. A stronger nozzle alone may move the problem elsewhere in the product path.
